The Teleport of the Future- An Expansion of the World Wide Web

By Roger Franklin  |  March 31, 2016

Over the next few years we will see an evolution in the Teleport and Satellite industries that will allow a significant reduction in cost and access to technology.  Teleports are critical to the World Wide Web and the shift from providing just connectivity to the Internet to actually being an integral part of the Internet is well underway.   Teleports will in the near future be responsible for moving lots of Internet traffic.

In 2014, 64% of Internet traffic was video.  It is projected that by 2020 80-90% of all Internet traffic will be video as we head towards millions of streaming channels.  Teleports will be responsible for routing this traffic from point A to point B.  Satellite links are prime communication paths for that video.

Teleports cannot accomplish this alone. They must partner with terrestrial companies, wireless companies, LEO and GEO systems – cooperation will be key.
