How Carrier ID Will Reduce Broadcast Chaos
ROGER FRANKLIN | PRESIDENT AND CEO | CRYSTAL
A new phase is underway in the fight against Satellite Interference. The adoption of a Carrier Identification (CID) scheme allows for the timely identification of signals causing interference in satellite transmissions. CID performs the same function as a license plate on a motor vehicle, supporting identification of the responsible party, which may be necessary for instances where one ‘vehicle’ collides with another.
The CID system works by adding a very low power, spread spectrum carrier to the actual carrier being transmitted. This new carrier is ‘beneath the noise floor’. As a separate carrier, the CID signal is very robust, since it is not related to the content of the primary carrier.
