Georgia-based Crystal wins Best of Show at IBC in Amsterdam
Duluth, Georgia, 26th September 2018 – Crystal, a software company specialising in the broadcast and satellite industries, based in Duluth, Georgia, has won Best of Show at a leading industry event in Amsterdam.
Crystal, a privately owned company whose clients are major broadcasters in the USA and abroad, has gained a solid reputation within the global broadcast and satellite industries. For more than 30 years, these companies have relied on Crystal to manage and control the systems that generate hundreds of billions in revenue.
The IBC is one of the world’s most influential media, entertainment, and technology shows, attracting more than 57,000 visitors from 170 countries. Each year, the official media partner, TVB Europe, a part of Future Publishing, awards the Best of Show in a number of different categories, awarding innovation and outstanding product development in Production & Post, Content Management and Delivery.
At IBC 2018, Crystal was awarded TVB Europe Best of Show in the Delivery category for its Crystal Connect with VidTime technology. The solution opens up additional revenue for broadcasters and distributors by making all TV ad spots addressable across any distribution platform. Addressable advertising enables broadcasters and distributors to target adverts to specific viewers based on a number of parameters, such as viewing preferences, geographical location, and other factors.
Crystal Connect with VidTime technology solves the fundamental challenge of ad replacement where in-band ad break signalling is frequently stripped, corrupted or delayed. As a result, broadcasters cannot replace generic advertising with targeted ads as they don’t know when the ad starts and stops or the length of the ads. Crystal’s technology uses temporal fingerprints to determine if the video has changed or if a delay has been introduced, as well as re-establish the original timing and accurately reinsert the original metadata, making it possible to replace any ads at any time.
Roger Franklin, CEO, Crystal, commented: “There has been a great deal of talk about ad revenues declining for broadcasters. Addressable advertising has the potential to completely reverse that but only if the technical barriers can be overcome. We are really proud to have won this award for a technology that will make all ad spots addressable, allowing our customers to effectively monetize their entire ad inventory.”
Crystal’s technology can be used on any distribution platform, whether that is traditional pay TV or over-the-top video.
Crystal provides automation software for monitoring, control and metadata management of the end-to-end broadcast operation – traditional playout through OTT/TVE delivery. Crystal applications reduce costs, reduce time-to-market, increase advertising effectiveness and capture new advertising revenue. Its patent pending technology enables today’s fast-changing broadcast, cable, DTH and OTT operation to integrate any combination of software and hardware in the broadcast facility, or in the cloud, and operate as a single, seamless system delivering higher performance at lower cost. Crystal powers targeting and addressability of ads in cable and satellite distribution to increase the return on investment in content. Crystal’s solutions also enable the automated production of rights-cleared live-to-OTT content fully capable of contextual dynamic ad insertion and live-to-VOD. Crystal opens the door to major growth in live-to-OTT advertising revenue through the delivery of relevant, addressable advertising to engaged viewers.
