Freeview plans to launch a mobile application to aggregate all of Australia’s free-to-air (FTA) live streaming and catch-up content, in what is being touted as the first of its kind.

The country’s TV industry will collaborate to produce the Freeview Plus app and provide content from multiple FTA networks – including Seven’s Plus7, Nine’s 9Now, Ten’s TenPlay, ABC iView and SBS OnDemand.

“This extends the FreeviewPlus on television onto mobile, and the experience of viewers is they’ll be able to stream live TV content and be able to watch catch up content,” Liz Ross, CEO, Freeview told AdNews.

“Strategically, the whole mission of Freeview and why networks invest in it is to maintain the dominance of the platform and to expand it across new devices. We’re delivering a service that will be anywhere, anytime and on any device.”
